Flamenco Music Resources
If you want to understand flamenco and you haven't grown up around it, you've got to listen to it- A LOT. So start listening. Online music
If you have a decent internet connection you can listen on-line 24 hours a day. My two favorite web-based flamenco stations are:
Flamenco from Jerez Sign up for a free Live365.com account to listen to this awesome station.
Emision Digital Click on the flamenco link and follow the prompts.
Rhapsody If you are lucky enough to have Rhapsody as I do, its a great resource for flamenco. It comes free with my subscription to my cable internet provider.
**Flamencophile’s pick: Flamenco Beat on Flamenco Canada
Streaming audio via internet, playing all the flamenco classics – old and new!
Music for Purchase
You can't take your computer with you everywhere, so you need to buy some CD's, right?
Flamenco-World.com is your one stop shop for flamenco music and accessories. You can preview the CD's on-line and learn about the artists on this great website. Just be sure to choose your language and your currency. Even though the company is based in Spain, shipping is VERY prompt and prices are reasonable. Personally, I wouldn't bother with any other companies.
Amazon has a lot of flamenco CD's available domestically, BUT they are cataloged very poorly and difficult to find. If you do a search for "flamenco" you will only get retuns on titles with the word flamenco in it. You have be very specific with your inquiry. What I do is search Flamenco-World.co, and listen to different artists, then search Amazon.com to see if it is available domestically. The only advantage to Amazon is that they sell used CD's which are sometimes greatly discounted and you don't have to pay for international shipping. So far I still haven't found Amazon to be worth the trouble.
