Magdalena Bailaora Flamenca

When not teaching, performing, or choreographing in New York City, Magdalena lives in Andalucía where she trains with legendary gypsies such as Familia Farruco, Angelita Vargas, Manuela Carrasco, and Esperanza Fernandez. Other influences are Isabel Bayón, La China, Pastora Galván, Alejandro Granados, and Andres Peña.

In the mid 90’s Magdalena helped revive the NYC Flamenco scene, starting up gigs at new venues in like Xunta, Alegrías, Helena’s, and Kaña. Since then she has danced with companies Madera, Flamenco Triana, American Bolero, Pasion y Arte, and Juanito Pascual, to name a few.

Inspired by her first mentors, Magdalena integrates her unique musical and educational background to create an exciting study program for all ages and dance backgrounds. She is a teacher at heart, dedicated to students and the excitement of learning, having inspired audience members for over 15 years.

Magdalena is best known for her traditional style which focuses on the musicality, grace, power, and rhythm of Flamenco. She was recently awarded grants by The Field and Fractured Atlas for her work as an individual performing artist. Magdalena can often be found dancing, singing, and playing “cajon” on the streets of her second home, Sevilla.
