Introduction to Flamenco: Sevillanas

Sevillanas are a festive folk dance named for the city of Sevilla.

Throughout Andalucia (Southern Spain), this lively partner dance is shared by young and old at family parties, in bars and at various festivals or “Ferias.”

It is great exercise, lots of fun and a perfect way to learn more about flamenco, the powerfully earthy and sensual arte of Andalucia.

In this 6 week introductory workshop, we will use the form/structure of the Sevillanas as a way to learn the essential elements of flamenco dance including basic posture, foot percussion, turns, arm and hand movements and most importantly, the rhythm or “compàs.”
