Set against the large-scale paintings of noted Lithuanian artist Ray Bartkus in the unique landscape of Drexel’s Pearlstein Gallery, Pasion y Arte, Philadelphia’s leading all female flamenco company, presents “Cosas de Mujeres”. An exploration of the many feminine objects that are widely used in the Flamenco language “manton” (shawl), “abanico” (fan), and “bata da cola” (long train). Is there room for such femininity in our culture? This work reflects a continuing conversation between PyA’s Artistic Director, Elba Hevia y Vaca and post modern dance artist KC Chun-Manning of Flesh Blood.
Original composition and live music by New York’s premiere flamenco guitarist Raphael Brunn and Barbara Martinez will capture the essence of Flamenco through cante jondo (song).
